Collection: current selection

These are the bonsai, prebonsai and pots currently available from shohin-bonsai.com.

I select material for what is already there and for what it can become: a convincing base, useful trunk movement, appropriate branch structure, maturity where it matters, and enough potential to justify the years of work that may still be ahead.

Not every tree here is finished, and that is intentional. Some are established Shohin, others are prebonsai chosen because the important structural decisions are already visible. The photographs are part of the description: when buying a tree, you receive the individual specimen shown.

Selected with a bonsai eye, not by size alone

Small dimensions do not automatically make a good Shohin. I look first at the relationship between nebari, trunk, primary structure and eventual scale. A tree may be compact and still have little future; another may need several seasons of development but already contain the structure from which a strong Shohin can be built.

This collection changes as trees are sold, prepared or added. If you are comparing material, look beyond the silhouette and examine the base, trunk transitions, branch diameter and the work that has already been done.
